One of the key motivations behind the development of both the multiCIG brands and the innovative products we offer is to give tobacco smokers attractive and viable alternatives to a habit we all know to be destructive. As vaping has become more widespread, we are buoyed by the many thousands of people in this country who have made this more positive lifestyle choice and, if that has led to a reduction in the number of smokers, we are proud to have played our part.
Yet, as a company, we are absolutely clear that we do not promote nicotine use among non-smokers or, indeed, minors. Put simply, if you don’t already smoke, there is no reason whatsoever to start vaping, and that is why we stand full square behind statutory measures being drawn up in many places around the world seeking to restrict the use of e-cigarettes among children.
In particular, we welcome recent announcements made by the Scottish government setting out proposals to ban the sale of vaping products to under-18s. We see this planned legislation as a proactive step and would gladly accept similar moves by Westminster and the Welsh and Northern Irish parliaments.
Leaving aside unsubstantiated theories about vaping potentially acting as a gateway to smoking for youngsters, our products are all about positive choices. We give our customers the opportunity to switch from a very harmful behaviour to something equally satisfying that frees them from exposure to hundreds of toxic compounds.
Smoking amongst children is universally condemned and rightly so. If we can pull together as a society to discourage them from taking up the habit in the first place, then they should have no need for multiCIG products.
The ability to make the choice of taking up vaping should be reserved for adults.
