New research by Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania has found that second-hand e-cigarette vapour is unlikely to cause health risks to bystanders.

Previous research has already confirmed that e-cigarettes are significantly less harmful than traditional tobacco products when consumed first hand, but this latest research, which went into detail on the chemical particles that are exhaled from vaping devices, is the first to examine the effects of “passive” vaping.

The team conducted the experiment in a room with no ventilation, using a range of devices that are currently available on the market, and the results showed that e-liquid vapour evaporated almost instantaneously, and had no effect on the air quality.

It is hoped that this research will help influence governing bodies who are considering banning e-cigarettes from public areas, such as in Wales.
